So it occurs to me from time to time that in order to be oft-repenting, one would have to be oft-sinning. And if that were the case there would be hope for me yet.

SubhanAllah, I never thought of it this way... it's amazing...

Can SO relate to this post... May Allah SWT forgive us all. Ameen

God mentions in the Qur'an He 'forgives the Prophet's previous, & future sins', which the ulama said one of the meanings is, although the Prophet is always advancing upwards to a higher station, it's 'forgiveness' for the lesser degree before it, just as one in our comparison would seek forgiveness for missing Fajr, but through resolve, effort & ikhlaas over time are committed to praying Tahajjud, when a mishap happens, although missing Tahajjud is not sinful (as its nafl), slipping into a lesser degree one remains remorseful, and losing concentration in Prayer when one was concentrating before, is a slipping downwards, although not sinful though requires turning in penitence to God.

As one advances, he seeks forgiveness for what passed him of heedlessness. And God loves those who continuously return back to Him.
