They matter too

By Timothy Bowes with one reader note

Up to 300 civilians have been killed and more than 1,100 injured in heavy fighting between government troops and fighters from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in northern Sri Lanka. Jacques de Maio, the head of Red Cross operations for South Asia, said: “People are being caught in the crossfire, hospitals and ambulances have been hit by shelling and several aid workers have been injured while evacuating the wounded.” But we don’t hear these cries.

Reader note

  1. Very good reminder of how farther we are from the true perspective on human victims who matter as much as those of our faith.

I read about the attacks on the Sri Lankan and Australian cricket teams in Pakistan and am absolutely disgusted. I think there the Muslim criminals trespassed not just “they matter too” level of sensitivity, but it was an absolute degeneracy to “they don’t matter”. In the extremist chaotic psyche, females, non-Muslims, flowers (too Sufi), clean shaven and less bearded men, education (too Western) don’t matter at all. These are the living proponents of Jahiliyah, something which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) fought so hard to eradicate.
